Oomkapiinaa
Oomkapiinaa is the Blackfeet word for Buddha. A more direct translation is "fat man."
This is an image based on a 10th Century Gandharan sculpture and created for the Halo Arts Project/MARA Gallery collaborative exhibition "Justified +Ancient."
The piece depicts Kubera, the Hindu/Buddhist god of prosperity and wealth amidst eternity represented by the ring of cosmic fire. Interwoven is the Sanskrit word for "prosperity" and as a nod to my Blackfoot ledger art, the text of the Gandharan scrolls--the oldest Buddhist Sutras in existance--can be found in the background.
